Zaklopatica is a small bay settlement on Lastovo’s north coast, 2.5 kilometres from Lastovo village. Houses, apartments and konobas line the sheltered inlet, while views across the Lastovo Channel extend towards Korčula. The bay is especially popular with sailors: several restaurants provide moorings and boat services, and island tourism sources count Zaklopatica among Lastovo’s safer anchorages. Just offshore, the islet of Zaklopatica is a nesting site for the Mediterranean shearwater, whose unusual calls can be heard from the waterfront after dark. Swimming is possible from rocky access points around the bay, while Korita, one kilometre away, is reached by forest path or private boat. Kručica offers two small shallow pebble beaches. Above the bay, the Sozanj viewpoint overlooks Zaklopatica and the distant Lastovnjaci islets, while an old woodland route towards the village passes traditional limekilns. Access to Lastovo is through Ubli, using the Split–Vela Luka–Ubli car ferry or fast line 9604. Zaklopatica combines quiet island life, nautical facilities, family-run dining and direct contact with Lastovo Archipelago Nature Park.
Zaklopatica occupies a deep inlet on Lastovo’s north coast, only 2.5 kilometres from the historic inland village of Lastovo. Its waterfront faces the Lastovo Channel and Korčula, while restaurants with moorings give the bay a distinctly nautical character. The namesake islet partially screens the open sea and provides nesting habitat for the protected Mediterranean shearwater, whose strange calls carry across the bay at night. Zaklopatica lies within Lastovo Archipelago Nature Park, an area of preserved woodland, rocky islets and rich marine habitats. Unlike inland Lastovo, daily life here unfolds beside boats, mooring lines and family-run konobas. Yet the settlement remains close enough for quick road access to Lastovo’s distinctive chimneys, churches and stone lanes.

The closest natural landmark is the islet of Zaklopatica itself, a Mediterranean shearwater nesting site; the national parks portal notes that residents know the bird’s distinctive night call well. Above the village, the Sozanj viewpoint frames the entire bay and the Lastovnjaci islet group. A 300-metre woodland path continues from the developed lookout to the summit for a broader view over the western part of the Nature Park. Two traditional limekilns survive beside an old forest route leading towards Zaklopatica, recalling the production of lime for island houses and walls. South of Sozanj, beside an old path, stands the 11th-century Church of St Luke, the oldest surviving church on Lastovo.

Zaklopatica has no broad, developed beach; most swimming begins from rock or paved access beside houses and moorings. For a more natural setting, walk one kilometre along the forest route to Korita or arrive by private boat; the cove offers natural shade beside the water. Kručica has two small shallow pebble beaches, making it more suitable for young children than Zaklopatica’s rocky edge. Kručica is also approached through woodland, so carry drinking water and wear footwear suited to uneven ground. For sand, a local boat excursion heads to Saplun on the islet of Mladine, while swimming in Zaklopatica itself best suits visitors who do not require showers, changing cabins or extensive beach facilities.
Begin with a waterfront walk and views towards the islet where Mediterranean shearwaters nest. Then follow the forest route to Korita, roughly one kilometre away, where natural shade borders the sea access. After returning, climb by road to the Sozanj viewpoint; the developed lookout faces Zaklopatica and the Lastovnjaci group, while a woodland trail continues another 300 metres to the summit. Reserve the afternoon for a dive with Ankora or a small-boat rental along the northern coast. End the evening at the water’s edge in Triton, Augusta Insula, Aragosta or Santor, as restaurants offering moorings are central to Zaklopatica’s particular character.
Four konobas give tiny Zaklopatica an unusually concentrated dining scene. Triton has operated in the centre of the bay since 1988, while Augusta Insula has paired Lastovo specialities with its own award-winning wines since 1989. Aragosta combines dining with complimentary yacht moorings supplied with electricity, water and sanitary facilities, making it particularly convenient for arriving crews. Santor sits directly beside the sea and serves fish alongside house-bottled Plavac and Maraština wines. Food here is inseparable from the setting: local wine, fish and a table beside the mooring matter more than a large urban choice of venues. During summer evenings, sailors should coordinate their restaurant table and berth together.
Zaklopatica is 2.5 kilometres from Lastovo village, where the tourist office, post office, shop, pharmacy and an ATM are located. Another island ATM stands in Ubli near the Jadrolinija office, and Lastovo’s fuel station is also in Ubli port. Within Zaklopatica, practical services centre on apartments, restaurants, moorings and seasonal scooter, boat and diving-equipment rentals. Because Korita and Kručica are approached by woodland paths, sturdy footwear, water and sun protection are useful beyond the bay. Ferry tickets are available through the Jadrolinija office in Ubli and online. Visitors arriving without a vehicle should coordinate their sailing into Ubli with the island bus or a prearranged transfer to Zaklopatica.
Zaklopatica’s ferry gateway is not inside the bay but at Ubli, on the opposite side of Lastovo. In 2026 Jadrolinija operates the year-round Split–Vela Luka–Ubli car ferry; the crossing to Vela Luka takes about three hours, followed by roughly another hour and a half to Lastovo. Fast line 9604 links Ubli with Vela Luka, Hvar and Split, with TP Line listing approximately six hours for Split–Ubli. From Ubli, the road to Zaklopatica crosses the island’s interior via Lastovo village. The 2026 island bus operates on the Lastovo–Ubli–Pasadur corridor, but Zaklopatica is not listed as a principal terminus, so confirm a suitable local stop or arrange the final transfer in advance.
