Uble, also called Ubli by islanders, is Lastovo’s transport gateway: its ferry port on the southwestern coast links the island with Split and Vela Luka, while other boat services include Korčula, Hvar and Dubrovnik. Yet the settlement is more than a pier. Above the harbour stand the conserved remains of the single-nave early Christian Basilica of St Peter, dating from the fifth or sixth century and associated with a Roman settlement that prospered around this natural port. The basilica is 17 metres long, and fragments of marble screens and carved decoration reveal its former furnishings; the original relief of a cross and two lambs is held by the Archaeological Museum in Zadar. A waterfront promenade runs approximately three kilometres west from Uble to Pasadur. The closest swimming choices are the concrete Pionir bathing area, the accessible pebble beach of Dragovoda about 300 metres from the quay and pine-shaded Zaglav. Pece Tavern is only around 100 metres from the ferry terminal, allowing arrivals to be combined with a meal without further transport. Local buses continue from the port to Lastovo village and Pasadur, with 2026 summer departures coordinated around sea connections. Uble consequently works well for car-free visitors and as a gateway to the western part of Lastovo Islands Nature Park.
Uble is a harbour settlement on Lastovo’s southwestern coast and the island’s only point where vehicles disembark from the ferry. Its natural port attracted settlement in Roman times, with remains from a first-century community and a fifth- or sixth-century basilica demonstrating long continuity. Modern Uble follows the rhythm of ship arrivals, onward buses to Lastovo and Pasadur, and the port’s supply functions. At the same time, the three-kilometre promenade towards Pasadur and the Dragovoda and Pionir bathing places provide enough to explore between two sailings.

The early Christian Basilica of St Peter is Uble’s defining monument. Measuring 17 by 6.75 metres, it was aligned east–west and included a semicircular apse, a six-column narthex and adjoining rooms where sarcophagi and graves were found. Its construction and marble fragments point to the sixth century, while the protected archaeological zone also contains traces of a first-century Roman settlement. The basilica remains were conserved between 1978 and 1981, and the original relief showing a cross and lambs is preserved in Zadar.
Pionir is a maintained concrete bathing area in Uble with natural shade, access suitable for children and older swimmers, and a place for jumping into the sea. Dragovoda is a pebble beach about 300 metres from the ferry quay, accessible by car and provided with parking. Farther on, Zaglav offers pine shade and entry over pebbly rocks or stone, making water shoes useful. For a quieter family cove, continue towards Jurjeva Luka, where a small pebble beach occupies one of Lastovo’s more sheltered bays.

From the ferry quay, first walk to the remains of St Peter’s Basilica and examine its plan with apse, narthex and adjoining rooms. Return towards the sea for a quick swim at Pionir or the pebble beach of Dragovoda, about 300 metres from the waterfront. For a longer walk, follow the coastal promenade roughly three kilometres towards Pasadur. Stronger walkers can take the old Uble–Lastovo route to the eleventh-century Church of St Luke, the island’s oldest surviving church still used for services.
Pece Tavern stands at Dragovoda 12, roughly 100 metres from the ferry port, making it convenient immediately after arrival or before boarding. The family prepares fresh cheese and wood-oven bread, while the terrace looks across the Lastovo archipelago. The tavern seats up to 60 guests and offers free mooring for as many as ten boats about ten metres away. Uble also has Bistro Domine, listed by the tourist board as operating year-round—an important option beyond the main summer season.
One of Lastovo’s two cash machines stands in the ferry port beside the Jadrolinija office; the other is at Pjevor in Lastovo village. Uble is the island’s main supply and transfer point, though shop and restaurant schedules outside summer should be checked before travelling. For route 604, Jadrolinija advises reaching the terminal at least 45 minutes before departure, or 60 minutes early in high season. A ticket for this line also reserves a place on the selected ferry, which matters particularly when travelling with a car.
In 2026, Jadrolinija ferry route 604 links Uble with Vela Luka, Hvar and Split; Split–Vela Luka takes about three hours, followed by roughly another 90 minutes to Uble. Tickets on this route include a reservation aboard the selected ferry. Depending on the seasonal schedule, Uble also has sea connections towards Korčula and Dubrovnik. Local buses connect the port with Lastovo village and Pasadur; the published summer timetable from 29 May to 27 September 2026 includes several departures each day.
