How we rank accommodation
We order accommodation in results the same way for every property. Payments, commissions and promotions do not affect it.
- 1.Listing completeness and qualityapproved photos, description, translations, verified registration number and prices
- 2.Calendar freshnesshealth of connected iCal feeds; manual availability without iCal receives the same baseline value
- 3.Claimed host profilea profile claimed and confirmed by the owner
- 4.New listingsa short-lived boost for new listings that fades over six months
When you search, we also consider how well a property fits the number of guests, and with dates selected we show properties with no recorded calendar overlap; availability is not guaranteed and iCal is not real-time.
Paid placements, where they exist, are shown separately from organic results and are always clearly labelled “Sponsored”, together with the advertiser’s name.
Hosts can improve their position with a complete, accurate listing and healthy connected calendars. Completeness has the greatest influence, followed by calendars, a claimed profile and the new-listing boost. Responsiveness is not currently used for ranking.
How we order attractions
Attractions with an approved photo come first; the organic score orders each group. Attractions in a place are ordered by an organic score. The starting value comes from popularity — Wikipedia article views over the last 12 months in eight languages — and editors may adjust it with a recorded reason.
Visitor votes ("Recommend" / "Not for me") can move the score by at most 30%, and only gradually: a handful of votes barely changes it. One vote per visitor; suspicious waves of votes are discarded.
Paid placements: an attraction may book a position in the list of one town and, optionally, of nearby places within a set radius. Such cards are always labelled "Sponsored" with the advertiser's name, there are at most three per list, and they do not change the organic score of other attractions.
