Church of Saints Cosmas and Damian

The Church of Saints Cosmas and Damian stands below Dovac, on a site that has long been the gathering place of the Lastovo community. Its present form grew from an older church: a single-nave building was erected in 1473, and side aisles were added during the 16th and 17th centuries. Notable works inside include Giovanni Lanfranco’s 1633 altarpiece of the titular saints and Juan Boschetto’s 1545 Lamentation of Christ on the Holy Trinity altar. The church remains the parish’s focal point; the feast of Saints Cosmas and Damian on 26 September is also associated with Lastovo Municipality Day.
