Lastovo Islands Nature Park was proclaimed on 29 September 2006 and includes Lastovo, Sušac, the surrounding islands, islets, reefs, rocks and sea. The protected area covers about 196 square kilometres: 53 km² of land and 143 km² of sea. Dense woodland, fertile fields with ponds, steep coastal cliffs, land and underwater caves, and rare marine and terrestrial species shape the landscape. This is also a cultural landscape: Lastovo and Sušac contain protected heritage and archaeological sites, while Sušac has a protected historic zone with more than forty recorded finds. Walking, boating and diving reveal the park best, provided visitors follow its conservation rules.
