Smerovišće
About this place
Smerovišće sits in the hills behind Samobor and serves as a practical starting point for walks towards Cerina, Cerinski vir, Slapnica and the higher ground of the Samobor Hills. The village landmark for visitors is Izletište Dumić at Smerovišće 26, a streamside tavern associated with trout, štrukli, fresh cheese and cream. From Dumić, the marked Cerinski vir route covers 3.8 kilometres; the ten-metre waterfall can be reached in roughly 50 minutes on foot from Smerovišće. It lies in the narrow valley of Javorački Stream and carries most water in spring and autumn. The Bat Trail cycle route also passes through Smerovišće, linking Samobor and Bregana with Žumberak villages, Šipački Breg, Cerina and Slapnica. Local buses connect the village with Samobor bus station through several Smerovišće stops, including Dumić and the bridge. This combination of marked trails, wooded streams and a long-established excursion tavern makes the village a focused base for a day in the Samobor Hills.
Smerovišće stands at 246 metres above sea level in a valley where walking routes branch towards Cerina, Cerinski vir and Japetić. The cold stream beside Izletište Dumić gives the settlement its excursion character, while marked paths connect the village with the wooded slopes of the Samobor Hills. The old “Krčma planinaru” inn and Mlin na Jarku mill appear in the local heritage inventory, reflecting Smerovišće’s long association with milling and hillwalking. The Bat Trail cycle route also crosses the village, descending from Slapnica into Smerovišće before continuing towards Samobor.

Things to do
From Izletište Dumić, take the right-hand road towards Šipački Breg and then the gravel track leading to Cerinski vir mountain hut. About 100 metres before the hut, a marked path drops to Javorački Stream and reaches the ten-metre Cerinski vir waterfall; the complete route from Smerovišće is 3.8 kilometres and takes about 50 minutes to the falls. Water levels are usually most rewarding in spring and autumn, and the return follows the same route. A longer outing can continue towards Slapnica or join the Bat Trail through Šipački Breg and Cerina. Back in Smerovišće, Dumić serves trout, štrukli and fresh cheese with cream beside the stream.

Practical information
Getting there and around
A local bus links Smerovišće with Samobor bus station and Mali Lipovec. The timetable published in 2025 lists stops at Smerovišće–pješčanik, Smerovišće 1, Smerovišće “Dumić” and Smerovišće–most, allowing walkers to choose a stop close to their intended route. By car, follow the road from Samobor to Izletište Dumić; roughly 30 metres beyond it, a turn leads towards Šipački Breg and the approach to Cerinski vir. A narrow gravel road continues from the first sharp bend towards the mountain hut, so the official excursion description directs visitors to complete this section on foot. Anyone returning by bus should match the walk with the current local timetable before setting out.
