Slani Dol
About this place
Slani Dol is a village and excursion destination in the Samobor Hills, standing at roughly 500 metres above sea level. The official Žumberak–Samoborsko Gorje Nature Park website places it seven kilometres from Samobor, while the Croatian Encyclopedia gives a road distance of 12 kilometres; the difference reflects the selected route and method of measurement. In clear weather the village overlooks Medvednica, Ivanščica and Strahinjčica, making it a rewarding short panoramic trip from Samobor. Slani Dol lies within Žumberak–Samoborsko Gorje Nature Park, with local roads and paths connecting it to Otruševec, Vratnik, Smerovišće and hiking routes into the higher hills. Izletište Gogo, a local countryside restaurant, is located at Slani Dol 4. The village also has a direct bus connection with Samobor: route S17 runs through Klokočevec, the Jazbina settlements, Otruševec, Dubrava, Gradišće, Vratnik, Brdarići and Draganje Selo. Under the timetable effective from 5 October 2026, service frequency varies between weekdays, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.
Despite its name, Slani Dol is not set at the bottom of a valley but on elevated ground in the Samobor Hills, around 500 metres above sea level. Its position within Žumberak–Samoborsko Gorje Nature Park provides broad northern views: Medvednica, Ivanščica and Strahinjčica can be seen in clear weather. The Croatian Encyclopedia also identifies Slani Dol as an excursion village southwest of Samobor, explaining its mixture of a small resident community, visiting hikers and countryside hospitality. Izletište Gogo at Slani Dol 4 is one of the few specific visitor venues inside the settlement. Slani Dol consequently works best for a trip centred on the landscape of the Samobor Hills, a short walk and a continuation along neighbouring hiking routes.

Things to do
On arrival in Slani Dol, first seek out the open view towards Medvednica, Ivanščica and Strahinjčica, which is clearest in settled weather. The village can then become one stage of a Samobor Hills walk: the recorded Samobor–Slani Dol trail gains about 300 metres in elevation, while a longer route from Smerovišće links Cerinski Vir, Japetić, Dragonoš, Veliki Lovnik and Slani Dol. Those itineraries demand considerably more time and preparation than a brief walk around the settlement. After returning, visitors can stop at Izletište Gogo at Slani Dol 4, checking its opening arrangements beforehand. Anyone using bus S17 should build the outing around the return departure because the Sunday service is substantially less frequent than the weekday timetable.
