About
St George’s Chapel rises on Tepec hill above Samobor, in the Anindol area, and is visible on the approach to town from Zagreb. It was built around 1620 by winegrowers from Giznik and Mala Rakovica, rebuilt in 1746, and altered and vaulted in the 19th century. The structure has a rectangular single nave, a narrower rectangular sanctuary and a substantial tower against the sanctuary’s south wall. Its walls are built of rough stone with dressed corner blocks, while the tower is capped with a pyramid-shaped roof. An inscription on the south portal records the 1746 reconstruction. The chapel is protected as cultural property Z-1462.
