About
St Michael’s Chapel is in Samobor’s Taborec quarter, below the hill of the Old Town. It already existed in the first half of the 16th century, as shown by a gravestone dated 1536. The building consists of a nave, a sanctuary ending in three sides of a regular octagon, a tower and a sacristy. The Gothic sanctuary retains its original vaulting, while the nave received its Baroque vault in 1698. A masonry gallery, reached from the outside by a covered bridge on the chapel’s south side, gives the building a particularly distinctive appearance. Inside are the high altar with a painting of St Michael, plus altars dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows and St Catherine.
