Plešivica
About this place
Plešivica is a wine-growing village seven kilometres from Jastrebarsko, set beneath a ridge that reaches 779 metres. Its slopes form the distinctive vineyard amphitheatre of the Jaska region, crossed by the Plešivica Wine Road, which opened in 2001. Around forty winegrowers operate along the route, working with local grapes such as Portugizac, Plavec Žuti, Slatki Zelenac and Šipelj alongside Chardonnay, Riesling and Pinot varieties. Plešivica is also a trailhead for the ridge summit and for longer walks towards Japetić, the highest point of the Samobor Hills at 879 metres. A viewing tower, first erected in 1881, stands on Plešivica’s summit, while the Jaska Hiking Trail continues from there to Japetić in about three hours. The wider nature park preserves the remains of medieval strongholds including Tuščak, Okić and Lipovec. Travellers using public transport will find it easiest to reach Jastrebarsko by bus from Zagreb, then arrange the final seven kilometres to Plešivica by local transport, taxi or car.
Plešivica is a village and wine country spread across sunny slopes seven kilometres from Jastrebarsko. It shares its name with the 779-metre ridge above, while vineyards below form the amphitheatre-like landscape associated with the Jaska area. Opened in 2001, the Plešivica Wine Road brings together around forty producers; alongside international varieties, local cellars maintain grapes such as Portugizac, Plavec Žuti, Slatki Zelenac and Šipelj. Forest and marked hiking trails take over above the vineyards, directly linking the village’s wine identity with the excursion culture of the Samobor Hills. The remains of Tuščak belong to a wider chain of historic strongholds in the surrounding nature park, together with Okić, Lipovec and the old Žumberak fortress.

Things to do
Begin with a drive along the Plešivica Wine Road and a pre-arranged tasting at one of its roughly forty producers. In the cellars, look for Portugizac, Plavec Žuti, Slatki Zelenac or Šipelj, grapes that give Plešivica’s wine offering a distinctly local accent. Continue through the vineyards towards Poljanice, the highest point on the Jastrebarsko–Samobor road and a starting point for the climb to Plešivica’s summit. At 779 metres stands a viewing tower whose first structure was erected in 1881. Stronger walkers can extend the outing along the Jaska Hiking Trail to Japetić; the local mountaineering club estimates about three hours for the Plešivica–Japetić section. Wine-cellar visits and hiking are best linked with a designated driver, especially on the winding return through the vineyards.

Practical information
Getting there and around
Plešivica lies about seven kilometres by road from Jastrebarsko, so a car is useful for reaching scattered wineries, Poljanice and the hiking trailheads. Samoborček buses link Zagreb with Jastrebarsko from Savski Most, while services from Zagreb’s main bus terminal operate on weekdays according to the local tourist board. The operator also lists intercity route 513 between Samobor and Jastrebarsko, although roadworks can temporarily alter individual stops. There is no dedicated visitor shuttle from central Jastrebarsko to the village that travellers should assume will be available, so the final section is best arranged in advance by taxi or car. A designated driver is particularly valuable when an itinerary includes several cellars along the Plešivica Wine Road.
