The Church of St. Romuald and All Saints was built in 1934 on Kozala under Italian administration, representing an avant-garde realization by architect Bruno Angheben. The modernist building, covered with white Istrian stone and minimalist in decoration, achieves monumentality through pointed forms of portals, bell tower and windows. The church serves as a monument to the legionaries of Gabriel D'Annunzio, with remains of 458 fallen legionaries from 1924 resting in the church premises. The project was supported politically and financially by Benito Mussolini and Senator Borletti. The name Saint Romuald pays homage to D'Annunzio — Romuald was the name of his father. The church was dedicated on the tenth anniversary of Rijeka's annexation to Italy in September 1934.
