The Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas in Rijeka was built in 1790 according to architect Ignazio Hencke's design, funded by wealthy Serbian and Vlach traders. The church exemplifies continental late Baroque style with an exterior that conceals its religious affiliation and instead follows the general Central European aesthetic of the period. The city required large doors so that military supplies could be hidden there if needed. According to local legend, city authorities initially opposed the church's construction in central Rijeka. The church is located on Adamićeva Street and is part of Rijeka's rich religious heritage.
