The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art traces its roots to the Gallery of Fine Arts founded in 1948 and has carried its present name since 2003. Its collections cover painting, sculpture, drawing, prints, photography, posters and media art, including dedicated holdings of Rijeka and Croatian artists. The museum operates in the former Rikard Benčić industrial complex, now the Art Quarter, linking contemporary culture with Rijeka's industrial heritage. It is a good choice for visitors wanting to move beyond the conventional Korzo route and explore the cultural reuse of the western city centre. The same quarter also contains the City Museum, City Library and Children's House.
