The Mlaka Lighthouse represents a fascinating story of relocation — first built in 1884 on top of the breakwater according to Luigi Burgstaller's design, the lighthouse had to be moved in 1893 due to settling of the breakwater to Mlaka where it stands today. It was relocated a third time in 1933, when a three-story reinforced concrete lighthouse tower was erected, reaching 41 meters in height. The structure has eight lenses in its optical device that make a full rotation every two minutes, creating alternating red and white light visible from approximately 33 kilometers away. It was automated in 1991 when the last lighthouse keeper retired. The lighthouse now stands approximately 100 meters from the sea in Rijeka's Mlaki district, remaining an iconic maritime symbol.
