Vinkuran is a small settlement in Medulin municipality, a few kilometres south of Pula, beside the deep, sheltered Soline Bay. Its shoreline and pine woods give it a gentler rhythm than the neighbouring resorts, with residential lanes descending towards a local beach and harbour. The village’s most distinctive landmark stands just outside the centre: Cave Romane, an ancient quarry that supplied limestone blocks used to build Pula’s Arena. Its tall, sharply cut rock faces now form a dramatic open-air venue for art and music. In June 2026, the quarry hosted the Gates of Agartha festival, prompting temporary changes to local bus services. Vinkuran is connected with Pula by Pulapromet routes running through Pješčana Uvala, Banjole and Premantura, while route 27 serves Cave Romane and the village itself. The pine-backed beach suits relaxed swimming, though sturdy shoes are useful when exploring around the quarry and rocky shoreline. Its position between Pula and the Medulin settlements makes Vinkuran a convenient, quiet base for southern Istria.
Vinkuran belongs to the Medulin Riviera, yet its character comes more from a sheltered bay, fishing tradition and ancient quarry than from large-scale resort infrastructure. Cave Romane preserves the vertical marks left by quarrying stone for Pula’s Arena, and its rock chamber now hosts summer cultural programmes. The settlement slopes towards a protected beach backed by pine woods, suiting visitors who want easy access to Pula without staying in the city centre. Nearby Vintijan, Pješčana Uvala and Banjole connect Vinkuran with a chain of small bays south of Pula.

Vinkuran’s local beach occupies a sheltered part of the bay at the edge of a pine wood. This setting distinguishes it from more exposed swimming spots in southern Istria: the water lies deep within the inlet, while trees provide natural shade just behind the shore. It is particularly convenient for guests staying in Vinkuran, who can walk down through the settlement instead of driving to the larger Medulin beaches. For a change of scenery, bus route 27 links Vinkuran with Pješčana Uvala, while the road in the opposite direction continues towards the coast at Banjole.
Begin the morning at Cave Romane, where the tall quarry walls retain regular cuts left by the extraction of blocks for Pula’s Arena. Afterwards, descend through Vinkuran to its harbour and sheltered pine-backed beach for a swim. Continue in the afternoon along the southern Pula coast towards Pješčana Uvala or Banjole, both also linked with Vinkuran by local buses. When the quarry hosts a concert or festival, check service notices: Gates of Agartha on 5–6 June 2026 temporarily altered the route of bus 28 through the area.
Pulapromet route 27 connects Pula bus station with Pješčana Uvala, Cave Romane, two stops in Vinkuran, Vintijan and Valbonaša. The wider area is also served by route 28 on the Pula–Pješčana Uvala–Vinkuran–Banjole–Pomer–Premantura circuit, although individual departures and route variants depend on the current timetable. Events at Cave Romane can cause temporary diversions: on the evenings of 5–6 June 2026, route 28 services towards Pula bypassed Vinkuran. By car, the village is reached from Pula via local roads through Pješčana Uvala or Vintijan.
The ancient quarry supplied stone blocks used in the construction of Pula’s Arena.
Route 27 links Vinkuran and Cave Romane with Pješčana Uvala and Pula bus station.
Vinkuran’s beach lies beside a pine wood that provides shade immediately behind the shore.
