The Twin Gates stand beside Carrarina Street on the edge of Pula's former defensive perimeter. Their two stone arches explain the name and preserve the arrangement of a Roman entrance, although much of the city's ancient wall circuit has disappeared. The setting links Roman architecture with the approach to the Archaeological Museum of Istria and the underground Zerostrasse system. Remains of an octagonal mausoleum stand in front of the gates, giving this small space more archaeological depth than a simple passage through the arches suggests. Continue towards the Gate of Hercules to compare two surviving entrances with different forms and historical contexts.
