The Chapel of St Mary Formosa belonged to a sixth-century basilica whose former scale is difficult to imagine from the small surviving building alone. Its stone exterior and cruciform arrangement reveal a different aspect of Pula's heritage from the Arena's monumental Roman arches. Read the chapel alongside the archaeological remains around it: this is the surviving component of a larger complex, not a little rural church conceived in isolation. Elements of its former mosaic decoration are associated with the Archaeological Museum of Istria's collections. South of the Forum, Formosa fits into a walk towards Sergijevaca Street and the remains of ancient buildings in this part of the city.
