The Host Lighthouse was built in 1873 on the northern side of a small uninhabited islet at the entrance to Vis Bay. The octagonal stone tower stands 11 meters high and features a light at 21 meters above sea level with a range of 8 nautical miles. The islet is named after British Admiral William Hoste, who defeated a much stronger French fleet near Vis in 1811. The lighthouse is automated and now functions as a private luxury residence for visitors seeking complete privacy on the islet.
