The underwater archaeological site near Vis lies off the islet of Host, on the approach to Vis harbour. Planning documents list it as an individual underwater archaeological site, RST-674, and as protected archaeological heritage. It is not a monument to be experienced on land: its significance lies in archaeological traces preserved beneath the sea and in its position on the maritime route into the town. Host is separately recognisable for its lighthouse, but the underwater site is distinct from that structure. Visitors can view the area from the water; diving or any interference with protected underwater heritage must comply with regulations and organised conditions.
