The Star of the Sea Church stands by Hvar harbour and dates from the late seventeenth century, when priest Antun Boglić had it built and dedicated to St Joseph. By the late nineteenth century it had become associated with Our Lady of the Port, while the present inscription above the doorway dates from the 1920s. The church contains a statue of Our Lady of Consolation transferred from the former Augustinian church. Its modest scale makes it easy to miss on a waterfront walk, yet its maritime position is precisely what makes it an interesting trace of harbour religious life. It fits best into a walking route linking Pjaca, the waterfront and the Franciscan monastery.
