Lower Paladini Palace was built in the late fifteenth century by knight and supracomito Nikola Paladini in the floral-Gothic style. The building changed over the centuries, and the present main façade results from an 1870 remodelling designed by Vicko Kovačević, when the ground floor and window arrangement were altered. It was also known as the summer house because rooms on its northern side once provided shelter from the summer heat. Standing directly beside Hvar's principal civic space, it is easy to include in a walk around Pjaca. For visitors, the palace is a useful example of a building where Gothic origins and later adaptations of an elite urban residence can both be read.
