St. George Orthodox church

Dedicated to the Great Martyr George, the Church of St George stands on Predolac hill in old Metković. It was built on the site of an earlier church constructed between 1847 and 1852. Its plan is cruciform; the interior has a barrel vault, while a dome covers the crossing of the nave and transept. The Orthodox cemetery and parish priest’s house beside it create a distinctive sacred ensemble. The city’s spatial plan lists the church as an individual cultural asset. It is reached by an uphill walk from the old town centre.
