About
The Museum of Slavonia was founded on 17 February 1877, when Osijek’s city representatives accepted merchant Franjo Sedlaković’s donation to establish a municipal museum. Located at 6 Holy Trinity Square in Tvrđa, it focuses on the natural and cultural heritage of eastern Croatia, especially Osijek and Osijek-Baranja County. Its holdings comprise 161 collections and around 300,000 objects, including historical, ethnographic, natural-history, technical, art, and library material. Archaeological collections are no longer within its remit. The museum currently has no permanent display, so visitors should check its programme of temporary exhibitions before going. Its history and breadth still make it central to understanding the region’s heritage.
