About
The Museum of Fine Arts stands at 9 European Avenue in a historicist house designed in 1895 by Josip Vancaš for lawyer Dragutin Neuman. Its origins lie in a picture collection separated from the Museum of Slavonia; it became an independent institution in 1954 and moved into its present building in 1964. The collections include painting, sculpture, drawings and prints, plaques and medals, and new media. They bring together Croatian art, foreign late-Baroque, Neoclassical, and Romantic masters, Croatian Modernism, and significant bodies of work by Osijek artists. Alongside its permanent display, the museum stages thematic and retrospective exhibitions and hosts events including the Slavonian Biennale.
