About
Osijek Archaeological Museum occupies the Main Guardhouse and the Brožan House on Holy Trinity Square, at the heart of Tvrđa. It is dedicated to the archaeological material of eastern Croatia, from prehistory onward, with visitor displays housed in the Main Guardhouse. First founded in 2005, the museum was incorporated into the Museum of Slavonia between 2012 and 2017 before being re-established as an independent institution. On regaining its independence, it took over the Museum of Slavonia’s archaeological department, collections, and documentation. It makes a rewarding stop for visitors who want to connect the long settlement history of eastern Slavonia with the architecture of Osijek’s former fortress.
