Pribić
About this place
Pribić is a settlement in Krašić Municipality, roughly three kilometres east of Krašić at the southern approach to the Žumberak area. A visit naturally extends to neighbouring Strmac Pribićki, whose Greek Catholic episcopal estate preserves several layers of architectural history. The bishops acquired the property in 1678, the Baroque residence received its portal in 1751, and architect Stjepan Podhorsky redesigned parts of the complex in the early 20th century. Its signature view is the Annunciation Church, built in 1911 in Neo-Byzantine style on an artificial island within a small lake. In 2012, the church was designated the principal Marian shrine of the Žumberak Vicariate. Nearby Pribić Crkveni contains the Church of Pope St Sixtus II, where Krašić Municipality improved the surrounding public space in 2024 in response to pilgrim visits. The area can also be explored by bicycle using Zagreb County’s Route Map 4, whose description specifically highlights the view from Pribić on the road towards Krašić. Samoborček route 512 links Jastrebarsko, Krašić, Pribić and Sošice.
Pribić belongs to Krašić Municipality and lies about three kilometres east of the municipal centre, where the landscape begins to open towards Žumberak. Its identity is shared between the Roman Catholic heritage of Pribić Crkveni and the Greek Catholic legacy of Strmac Pribićki. An episcopal estate developed at Strmac from 1678, with a Baroque residence, a portal dated 1751 and later alterations by Stjepan Podhorsky. The 1911 Annunciation Church, set on an artificial island within a small lake, creates a scene unlike any in Krašić or the neighbouring villages. Since 2012, the church has served as the principal Marian shrine of the Žumberak Vicariate.
