Okić
About
Okić is a medieval fort on a 499-metre summit in the Samobor Hills. It was first recorded in 1193 in a charter issued by Kalán, Bishop of Pécs, and played an important role in the escape of King Béla IV from the Mongols. Its holders included the Okić nobles, the Babonići and Frankopans, Matthias Corvinus and the Erdődy family; by 1616 it had already become a ruin. The remaining walls overlook Posavina, Pokuplje, Zagreb, Medvednica and Plešivica. Okić also holds a place in Croatian mountaineering history: Dragojla Jarnević climbed its harder southern route in 1843. It is a rewarding destination for hikers seeking a steep approach, historic remains and expansive views.
