Ika is a small Kvarner settlement within the City of Opatija, occupying a cove between Ičići and Lovran beneath Učka’s eastern slopes. Its centre is shaped by a fishing harbour, the mouth of the Banina torrent, a pebble beach and Primorska Street, while the historic Lungomare promenade passes directly through the village. Lovran is about 1.5 kilometres south and Opatija roughly four kilometres northeast, placing Ika naturally within the wider Opatija–Lovran resort area. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries it developed in the atmosphere of Kvarner’s climatic health resorts; the site of today’s Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management once housed the Kaiser Franz Joseph priests’ sanatorium. The faculty has operated in Ika since 1987, giving the village an unusual combination of fishing harbour, bathing place and university life. Lungomare links Ika with the turn-of-the-century villas toward Lovran and with Ičići and Opatija in the opposite direction. A restaurant beside the pebble beach and several parking locations along Primorska Street help with short visits, although summer exploration is easier on foot or by local bus than by searching for a space directly beside the waterfront.
Ika occupies a small cove at the drowned mouth of the Banina torrent, between Lovran and Ičići, with a harbour that preserves the village’s fishing character. Administratively part of the City of Opatija, it also has an immediate spatial relationship with Lovran, only about 1.5 kilometres away. Lungomare passes directly beside the beach and harbour, so Ika has no separate resort district: promenade, bathing area, restaurant and faculty building meet within a very compact space. The Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management, based in Ika since 1987, adds a student rhythm to a settlement far smaller than neighbouring Opatija.

Ika’s defining ensemble is its small harbour at the mouth of the Banina torrent, where the fishing past meets Lungomare and the village beach. The historic building of the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management was created for health-resort use as the Kaiser Franz Joseph Priester-Sanatorium, intended for priests recovering in Kvarner’s climate. The faculty has occupied the site since 1987. The coastal promenade is an attraction in its own right: the roughly 12-kilometre route connects Lovran with Volosko, and its final section was completed in 1911. From Ika it gives immediate access to Lovran’s belt of turn-of-the-century villas.

Start in Ika with a swim beside its little harbour, then take the Lungomare south towards Lovran or north towards Volosko. The Franz Joseph I coastal promenade links Ika with both places, and Opatija’s spatial report records eleven bridges along the route. Above the shore stands the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management: its site was once home to the Kaiser Franz Joseph Priester-Sanatorium, while the Faculty itself has occupied the Ika location since 1987.
Ika belongs administratively to the City of Opatija, while neighbouring Lovran’s tourist information centre is at Trg slobode 1, about 1.5 kilometres away. The Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management at Primorska 42 is an important landmark above the waterfront. Central services cluster along Primorska Street, the beach and the bus stops; local council records even refer to pharmacy visits as a reason for short stops in Ika’s centre. For a wider selection of shops, museums and health services, Lovran, Ičići and Opatija are the practical options, all connected along the coastal corridor.
Ika stands on the coastal road between Lovran and Opatija, about 1.5 kilometres from Lovran and roughly four kilometres from Opatija. Bus stops are located along Primorska Street, including one for services toward Lovran, making local buses more practical than a car for visiting Ičići, Opatija and Lovran. Walkers can use Lungomare, which links the coastal settlements as far as Volosko. Ika has no railway station; passengers arriving by train in Rijeka must continue by road toward the Opatija Riviera and check the timetable for their actual travel date.
Ika is about 1.5 kilometres north of Lovran, and the two are linked by Lungomare.
