Ičići occupies the narrow coast between Opatija and Lovran beneath Mount Učka, with an identity built around the sea, marina and Lungomare promenade. ACI Marina Opatija is actually located here: open year-round, it provides 283 wet and 35 dry berths and accepts visiting yachts up to 40 metres. Beside it stretches Ičići’s large pebble beach, more than 400 metres long and equipped for sport and family outings. Four anchors placed on the beach and in the small harbour in 1996 and 1997 have become symbols of the village’s maritime past. Early tourism also left its mark above the shore: Villa Barth first appears in records from 1905, while Tivoli Park once formed the garden of a Viennese café-restaurant. Lungomare links Ičići directly with Opatija and Lovran away from the main road. Near Villa Florida, steps descend to a mapped snorkelling site presented in 2025, where rocky shallows fall towards a sandy bottom and a distinctive boulder at 12 metres. Marina, beach, harbour, historic park and underwater trail therefore fit into a remarkably compact stretch of coast.
Ičići developed from a fishing shoreline into a sports and sailing village dominated by its beach, small harbour and ACI Marina Opatija. The 283-berth marina is sheltered from the bora by Mount Učka, while Lungomare carries walkers directly towards Opatija and Lovran. Local maritime history is represented by Captain Igor Žiganto’s anchors: three were placed on the beach in 1997, while a fourth had been submerged the previous year to secure harbour chains. Tivoli Park and Villa Barth, first documented in 1905, reveal Ičići’s less obvious connection with the early development of tourism on the Opatija Riviera.
The four Ičići anchors form an unusual open-air landmark: three merchant-ship anchors were placed on the beach in 1997, while the fourth has remained hidden underwater beside the harbour since 1996. The most conspicuous is an Admiralty-pattern anchor more than a century old, recognisable by its two curved arms and horizontal stock. Tivoli Park preserves a different story; it once contained a Wiener Café-Restaurant, while neighbouring Villa Barth was documented in 1905 and remodelled as Hotel Tivoli in 1910. The small harbour, landscaped with oleanders in 2000, remains a working meeting place rather than a static monument.
Ičići’s main beach extends for more than 400 metres beside Liburnijska Road and ACI Marina, combining pebble sections, prepared terraces and sports facilities. It held Blue Flag status for more than a decade, while its beach-volleyball court was comprehensively renewed in 2026 with fresh sand, nets and protective equipment. For a different swim, follow Lungomare to Villa Florida, where steps descend to a concrete platform and a mapped snorkelling site. Its rocky shallows slope towards sand and support algae, wrasse, salema and saddled seabream.
Start the morning at the anchors between ACI Marina and the main beach, then walk through the small harbour built through community work during the 1980s. After swimming, follow Lungomare towards Villa Florida and descend the steps to the marked snorkelling site; pebbles in the shallows give way to large boulders and a solitary rock rests on sand at 12 metres. Return through Tivoli Park in the evening and look across Liburnijska Road to Villa Barth. For a more active finish, the beach has a refurbished sand-volleyball court completed in 2026.
The official Ičići list includes Bistro Bussola, Restaurant Galeb, Bistro Lučica and Bistro Venezia. Bistro Lučica stands beside the village harbour, making it a natural stop between the anchors and Lungomare; for the 2026 Unplugged Festival it created a dessert named Cannoli Ičićani. Local menus emphasise Kvarner spring asparagus, prosciutto and cheese, together with Adriatic fish, crustaceans and shellfish. At the same 2026 festival, the “Ičići Sardines on a Plate” programme used sardines to connect the village’s fishing heritage with Kvarner’s year as a European Region of Gastronomy.
The Ičići Tourist Office is at Liburnijska 7a beside the marina area and can be reached on +385 51 704 187. The official village map identifies the tourist office, emergency services, swimming areas, restaurants, campsite and passages connecting the waterfront with the higher residential streets. Automatic public toilets at the marina end of the beach and beside the small harbour are designated for year-round, 24-hour operation in the city’s 2024–2028 maritime-domain management plan. An information panel marks the approach to the snorkelling site near Villa Florida.
Ičići is linked by road to Opatija and Lovran along Liburnijska Street, although local journeys are pleasanter on Lungomare, the uninterrupted ten-kilometre coastal promenade between Volosko and Lovran. ACI Marina Opatija at Liburnijska 7a operates year-round with 283 wet and 35 dry berths; visiting yachts up to 40 metres can use daily berths. Private boat tours, rentals and panoramic trips are offered from the marina area and an information counter at the far end of the beach, allowing visitors to explore Kvarner Bay without first travelling to Opatija harbour.
