The Church of St Simeon is a layered Zadar monument whose form evolved from an Early Christian basilica through a Gothic phase to its present Baroque character. Its greatest artistic treasure stands on the main altar: the silver Casket of St Simeon, made in 1380 after a commission by Queen Elizabeth of Hungary-Croatia and crafted by Francis of Milan. Its reliefs combine religious imagery with historical figures and events. South of the church stands a Roman column assembled from ancient elements originating at the Forum. This remains an active place of worship, so interior sightseeing should be fitted around services and approached respectfully.
