Trogir City Museum was founded in 1963 and opened to the public in 1966. It occupies Garagnin-Fanfogna Palace immediately beside the northern city gate. The permanent exhibition follows Trogir and its surroundings from the earliest archaeological evidence and ancient Tragurium through the medieval and Venetian periods to more recent urban life. Displays include archaeological material, historical plans, a lapidarium, artworks and preserved rooms within the noble residence. It is particularly useful near the start of a visit because it provides context for the walls, palaces, churches and street pattern that can then be explored outside only a few steps away.
