The Cathedral of St Lawrence dominates Trogir’s main square and condenses several centuries of building history. Construction began around 1200, while later phases introduced Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance elements. Its best-known feature is the monumental west portal completed by Master Radovan in 1240, and the bell tower visibly records different architectural periods. Inside are the chapel of St John of Trogir and important stone sculpture. The cathedral is reached on foot through the historic core; for a complete visit, examine the façade and portal, enter the church, and look up at the layered bell tower.
