The Historic City of Trogir was inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 1997. Its exceptional value lies in urban continuity: the basic orthogonal street grid reaches back to the Hellenistic period, while later centuries added Romanesque churches, Gothic and Renaissance palaces, Baroque interventions and Venetian fortifications. The centre is compact and almost entirely walkable, allowing visitors to read this development directly in streets, squares and façades. A strong route links the North Gate, cathedral and main square, Cipiko and Garagnin-Fanfogna palaces, the waterfront and the Kamerlengo area. UNESCO particularly emphasizes the unusually high degree of preservation of the historic urban fabric.
