The Church of St Barbara is tucked into the narrow streets of Trogir’s historic core, only a short distance from the main square. The Croatian Encyclopaedia lists it among the town’s surviving Romanesque buildings and dates it to the 11th century. Although small, its three-aisled plan and restrained stone architecture distinguish it from Trogir’s more elaborate later churches. It is protected as an individual cultural monument. The church is especially rewarding as a contrast to the cathedral: within a few minutes’ walk, visitors can compare an austere early Romanesque building with the far more monumental architectural layers that followed.
