Kaštel Koriolana Cipika was the first fortress built in Kaštelansko polje for defense against Ottoman threats. Trogir nobleman Koriolan Cipiko received permission in 1476 from prince Troil Maripietro to construct a castle for protection, and completed construction in 1481 on rocky outcrops in the sea. The fortress features a northern defensive tower and southern residential section with multi-story wings and courtyards. The castle was damaged by fire in 1490 but restored in 1493 with Venetian assistance. The settlement surrounding the fortress was enclosed by defensive walls in 1507, marking the beginning of Kaštela's urbanization.
