Dubrovnik’s city walls turn a visit to the old centre into a walk above its roofs, harbour and sea. The defensive circuit encloses the historic town, alternating views over closely packed streets with open stretches of the Adriatic. Walking along Stradun before climbing helps you recognise the squares, churches and houses from above. Allow for stairs and exposed sections rather than treating this as a level promenade. Bring drinking water, sun protection and comfortable walking shoes. Give the walls their own part of the day instead of adding them to an already crowded museum itinerary. For photographs, stay on the designated walkway and leave room for other visitors at narrow points.
