Lovrijenac

Lovrijenac gives Dubrovnik a distinctive defensive silhouette on the rock west of the old centre. Separate from the main circuit of city walls, the fortress rises above Pile and offers a different way to understand the town than walking along Stradun. Plan the approach and climb as a separate part of your visit. Look at the relationship between the rock, high walls and sea passage: the setting explains much of the building’s defensive purpose. Lovrijenac also hosts cultural performances, although appreciating its architecture does not depend on attending a show. Combine it with a look along the Pile waterfront and keep the wall circuit for another part of the day.
