The Rector’s Palace introduces Dubrovnik through the workings of its former government and the material life of the Republic. Once the rector’s official residence and a seat of authority, the building now houses the Cultural History Museum. Begin with the portico, carved capitals and courtyard before moving into the exhibition rooms. Objects such as furniture, paintings, coins and seals connect the former offices and domestic spaces with the people who used them. Rather than rushing through every room, choose a few exhibits that explain administration and trade. A visit complements a walk along Stradun and past Sponza by taking you beyond public facades and into the city’s institutional interior.
