Podravske Sesvete
About this place
Podravske Sesvete lies on the eastern edge of Koprivnica-Križevci County, 16 kilometres southeast of Đurđevac and about five kilometres northeast of the main Podravina road. The village sits between farmland, wooded tracts and the Drava corridor, while the municipality also includes the hamlets of Mekiš and Draganci. Its historical identity is embedded in its name: a Church of All Saints appears in the Zagreb Diocese parish list of 1334. The present All Saints parish church was completed in 1878 and is protected as a cultural property. In Štrosmajer Street, a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows marks the site of the earlier church, while a wayside chapel of St John of Nepomuk stands near the current parish church. Podravske Sesvete became an independent municipality in 1997 after separating from Kloštar Podravski. Proximity to the Drava, extensive woodland and flat roads towards Mekiš and Draganci give the area particular appeal for cycling and quiet countryside excursions. Its heritage combines a medieval parish tradition, historic houses along Braće Radić, Pavleka Miškine and Ljudevita Gaja streets, and modern membership in the Dravski peski tourism area.
Podravske Sesvete has been shaped by its position between the Drava woodlands and the transport routes of southern Podravina. The village stands about five kilometres towards the river and the national border from the main Podravina road, helping it retain a distinctly rural street pattern. A medieval record from 1334 names the parish of All Saints, and that dedication remains the basis of both the settlement’s name and its religious identity. The present municipality was created in 1997 after separating from Kloštar Podravski and includes Mekiš and Draganci alongside the main village. Membership in the Dravski peski tourism area links Podravske Sesvete with Kalinovac and Kloštar Podravski through their shared sandy and riverside landscapes. Agriculture and small trades still visibly shape the settlement.

Things to do
Start at All Saints parish church, completed in 1878 with voluntary contributions from villagers and now listed as a protected cultural property. Nearby, find the wayside chapel of St John of Nepomuk, whose statue already appeared in an account of the village in 1780. Continue along Štrosmajer Street to the 1977 chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows, built on the site of the older church recorded in medieval sources. The walk can then follow streets containing documented traditional houses, particularly Braće Radić, Pavleka Miškine, Ljudevita Gaja and Petra Preradovića. For a longer circuit, use a bicycle: flat roads towards Mekiš and Draganci lead away from the village into woodland and the Drava landscape promoted as part of the Dravski peski area.
