About
Đurđevački Peski form Croatia’s largest and highest deposits of wind-blown sand, shaped by the ancient Drava and wind after the last ice age. These sandy hummocks extend around Đurđevac, Kalinovac, Molve, and Kloštar Podravski; the protected section east of Đurđevac was declared a special geographical-botanical reserve in 1963. Within roughly 20 hectares, visitors can see dune remnants and habitats adapted to life on sand, with endemic flora and fauna. Once-mobile sand threatened fields and settlements, prompting afforestation work from 1891 onward. An educational thematic trail introduces this sensitive sandy habitat and its characteristic vegetation.
