Osekovo
About this place
Osekovo lies where the Moslavina foothills meet the floodplain of Lonjsko Polje, within the City of Popovača. Its principal visitor facility is in the village itself: the Crna roda centre at Gornje selo 95a serves as the nature park’s official northern gateway. A multimedia hall and information from park staff introduce the wetlands, Moslavina wine roads and a landscape governed by seasonal flooding. The Lonja flows south of the settlement, while the surrounding terrain combines pastures, floodplain woodland and waters used by birds and traditionally grazed livestock. Osekovo also contains the Church of Saint Anne, described by city sources as one of Moslavina’s oldest churches, and the Ciglenice archaeological site, evidence of much earlier settlement. This makes the village an unusual starting point where the natural-history displays of Crna roda, local religious heritage and the edge of Croatia’s largest protected wetland can be combined in one compact visit. The most straightforward road approach uses the Popovača exit from the A3 motorway, followed by the route through Potok.
Osekovo occupies the meeting point between the slopes of Moslavačka gora and the Lonjsko Polje lowlands, with the Lonja flowing through the southern part of its territory. This position encouraged settlement from prehistoric times, as demonstrated by the Ciglenice archaeological site. The village’s present-day visitor identity centres on the Crna roda centre, the northern gateway to Lonjsko Polje Nature Park. The Church of Saint Anne represents Osekovo’s older religious heritage, while the pastures and flood zones behind the village reveal how local life adapted to the wetland’s water regime. Osekovo consequently belongs both to Moslavina’s cultural landscape and to the wider Sava floodplain system.

Things to do
Start at the Crna roda Visitor Centre, where the multimedia hall explains Osekovo, the nature park and the Moslavina wine roads. Afterwards, continue towards the edge of Lonjsko Polje to observe birds, flood pastures and traditional grazing; field conditions vary with water levels, so follow the park staff’s guidance. On returning through the village, visit the Church of Saint Anne, while Ciglenice should be included only after checking access to the approach road. This sequence links the centre’s interpretation with the landscape it describes and finishes with Osekovo’s two principal cultural sites.

Practical information
Getting there and around
Drivers approaching from Zagreb or Slavonski Brod should follow the nature park’s directions: leave the A3 at Popovača, continue towards Potok and then turn for Osekovo. The Crna roda Visitor Centre is at Gornje selo 95a, so navigation should be set to the centre rather than simply to the middle of the village. Popovača railway station lies on the main corridor towards Zagreb and Novska, but the final leg to Osekovo requires road transport. In 2026 the county’s SiMBus network links Popovača with Sisak, Kutina and Petrinja; travellers should check the current local connection for the onward journey to Osekovo.
