About
St Quirinus Basilica stands in Sisak’s Zeleni brijeg district and is dedicated to St Quirinus, bishop of ancient Siscia and a martyr of the Diocletian persecutions. A wooden church on this site is recorded in 1653, followed by another around 1670 and a permanent chapel in 1784. The chapel was demolished in 1974; a competition for a new church followed in 1996, selecting a design by architect Ivan Antolić. The present church was designated a minor basilica in 2014. A visit connects contemporary sacred architecture with the long local tradition of devotion to Quirinus, patron saint of both Sisak and the Diocese of Sisak.
