About this place

Duboševica is a Baranja village in Draž municipality, close to the Croatian–Hungarian border and the route towards Mohács. Its centre is dominated by the parish church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, built on raised ground in 1794. The single-nave structure has a rectangular sanctuary, a semicircular apse and a bell tower integrated into an elaborately treated Baroque façade. Inside stands an important historic organ made in 1876 by the workshop of Josef Angster, a renowned builder born in nearby Jagodnjak who later trained in Paris. The surrounding fields preserve much older evidence of settlement: the municipal spatial plan records the prehistoric and medieval site of Selište and the early medieval complex of Vir, Selska bara and Vinogradac. For onward journeys to Osijek or Pécs, nearby Beli Manastir provides access to the railway that in 2026 serves Osijek, Magyarbóly, Villány and Pécs. Duboševica thus brings together Šokac Baranja, organ-building heritage and a distinctive borderland setting.

Duboševica belongs to Draž municipality and the northern border zone of Croatian Baranja. The village’s visual centre is the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, built on raised ground in 1794. Its 43-metre bell tower and Baroque façade details stand out clearly in the surrounding plain. The church was mined and damaged during the Croatian War of Independence and was subsequently restored in stages under conservation supervision. Registered archaeological sites reveal a much deeper history around Duboševica: Selište contains prehistoric and medieval layers, while Vir, Selska bara and Vinogradac form an early medieval site complex.

Things to do

Focus a visit on the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary at Trg hrvatske mladeži. After examining its Baroque façade and tower, look for the historic organ built in 1876 by Josef Angster’s workshop. Angster came from nearby Jagodnjak, learned carpentry in Osijek and later worked in a Paris workshop associated with the great organ of Notre-Dame Cathedral. Access to the church interior or a closer introduction to the instrument should be arranged in advance with Duboševica parish, whose contact details are published by the county tourist board. Complete the visit with a walk towards the fields containing the recorded sites of Selište, Vir, Selska bara and Vinogradac.

Practical information

Getting there and around

Duboševica has no railway station, so driving is the simplest option for reaching and exploring the village. Beli Manastir is the key public-transport hub for onward travel: HŽPP’s timetable valid from 13 April to 12 December 2026 shows trains on the Osijek–Darda–Čeminac–Beli Manastir corridor. The same route continues through the border station at Magyarbóly, with selected services involving Villány and Pécs—useful for Duboševica’s border location. Separate road transport is required between Beli Manastir station and the village. Check the operating notes for the intended travel date, as several listed trains do not run on particular weekends or public holidays.
