Gajić
About this place
Gajić is a small Baranja village in Draž municipality, set between fertile lowlands, the slopes of Baranjska Planina and the Danube border region. Together with Draž, Batina, Podolje, Topolje and Duboševica, it belongs to an area promoted through Šokac heritage, old Danube channels and walking and cycling routes. Gajić itself has a chapel dedicated to St Joseph the Worker, recorded in surveys of Baranja’s religious heritage, while the Draž–Gajić cultural association preserves traditions shared by the neighbouring villages. The settlement is also one of four hosts of Baranjski bećarac, a heritage event that rotates between Gajić, Draž, Topolje and Duboševica. Local roads connect with the Baranja hiking circuit, while the wider municipality forms part of a network linked to the Danube section of EuroVelo 6. Gajić consequently suits an unhurried exploration of rural Baranja better than a packed checklist of standalone attractions. A circuit from the village can include the Šokac House in Topolje, the Batina Battle Memorial and the old Danube waters around Draž.
Gajić belongs to Draž municipality, whose six settlements occupy Croatia’s far north-eastern corner between Baranjska Planina and the Danube landscape. The village contains the Chapel of St Joseph the Worker, listed among Baranja’s Catholic heritage sites. Its local identity is also expressed through the Draž–Gajić Association for the Preservation of Culture and Customs, registered for cultural and performing activities. Sloga Gajić football club provides another tangible focus for community life. Tourism here is not centred on a single major monument; instead, Gajić connects with neighbouring Šokac villages, the vineyards of Baranjska Planina and the riverside environment of Draž municipality. This dispersed pattern makes the settlement a quiet base for exploring northern Baranja.

Things to do
Start a short visit to Gajić at the Chapel of St Joseph the Worker, then follow the local roads towards the slopes of Baranjska Planina. For a longer active outing, join a section of the Baranja hiking circuit, identified by the Draž tourist board as the area’s best-known walking trail. Cyclists can continue towards Batina and the Danube route of EuroVelo 6, while a cultural circuit leads to the Šokac House in Topolje, which welcomes visitors by prior arrangement with the tourist board. In Batina, the route can finish at the monumental memorial to the Battle of Batina. When dates coincide with Baranjski bećarac, Gajić becomes one of the rotating host villages alongside Draž, Topolje and Duboševica.

Practical information
Getting there and around
A car or bicycle is the most practical way to explore Gajić and its neighbouring villages because the chapel, Baranjska Planina, Topolje and Batina lie in different parts of Draž municipality. The regional rail approach ends at Beli Manastir: HŽ Passenger Transport’s timetable valid from 14 June to 12 December 2026 lists direct trains from Osijek to Beli Manastir but no railway station in Gajić. Travellers must therefore arrange an onward road journey from Beli Manastir. For cyclists, the wider Draž area connects with EuroVelo 6, whose Croatian Danube section runs through Batina towards Osijek and Vukovar. A circuit linking Gajić, Draž, Topolje and Batina follows rural roads rather than an urban public-transport network.
