Netretić is a small village and municipal centre west of Karlovac, in a landscape crossed by the historic Karolina and Lujzijana roads. Its character comes from karst terrain, the rivers Dobra and Kupa, and hamlets scattered across wooded hills. The village works best as a base for exploring the wider municipality at an unhurried pace. Nearby Novigrad na Dobri has the ruins of a medieval castle, a stone bridge on the old Karolina route and the Church of the Assumption, whose Gothic sanctuary preserves important painted decoration. Toward Modrušpotok, the Lujzijana story continues at the manor built in the early 19th century by General Filip Vukasović, the road’s designer. This is not a conventional resort with attractions clustered in one centre, so a car or bicycle makes the dispersed sites much easier to reach. The Žakanje–Netretić–Žakanje cycling route crosses the slopes of Lipnik and passes Modrušpotok before continuing through villages toward Jaškovo, with possible extensions to Ozalj, Kamanje and Vrlovka Cave. Netretić particularly suits travellers drawn to historic roads, riverside scenery and rural heritage.
Two historic roads define the Netretić area: the 18th-century Karolina between Karlovac and Bakar, and the early-19th-century Lujzijana linking Karlovac with Rijeka. Karst hollows, woodland and small settlements fill the ground between the Dobra and Kupa catchments. Because the municipality contains numerous dispersed villages, its identity extends well beyond central Netretić to Novigrad na Dobri, Modrušpotok, Prilišće and neighbouring hamlets. The most distinctive local image is the meeting of old road engineering and river scenery, especially where the stone bridge at Novigrad crosses the Dobra below the ruined castle.

Begin in Novigrad na Dobri, where a short walk can link the stone bridge, the Church of the Assumption and the castle ruins above the river. Continue the historic-road theme toward Modrušpotok and view Vukasović Manor from outside; it was built in the early 19th century for the designer of the Lujzijana road. For a longer outing, follow the Žakanje–Netretić–Žakanje cycling route. It descends from the Lipnik slopes toward Netretić, passes the manor and continues toward Tomašnica and Jaškovo. Stronger riders can extend the circuit through Ozalj and Kamanje, adding Vrlovka Cave to a full-day ride.
Netretić is linked with Karlovac by the D6 state road, while the A1 motorway crosses the eastern municipality and has an interchange at Novigrad. A car is the practical choice for combining Novigrad na Dobri, Modrušpotok and the villages near the Kupa because the sites are spread apart. Autotransport Karlovac lists a county bus service between Karlovac bus station and Netretić, though travellers should match their plans to the current timetable. Netretić village has no railway station. The Karolina and Lujzijana also provide useful thematic driving routes: the former leads through Novigrad na Dobri, while the latter connects this area with Karlovac and the route toward Rijeka.
The ruins stand above the Dobra River in Novigrad na Dobri, close to the old Karolina road and its stone bridge.
Autotransport Karlovac publishes a county route from Karlovac to Netretić; check the operator’s current timetable before travelling.
The Dobra and Kupa cross the Netretić area, with Novigrad Castle and its historic bridge beside the Dobra.
