St Foška’s Church stands in the secluded Batvači countryside, beside the local road between Peroj and Golubovo. This Romanesque three-aisled basilica dates to the late 11th or early 12th century and has three inscribed apses. Its central sanctuary changes from a square base into a domed form through squinches, while the interior retains wall paintings from the first half of the 12th century. The outstanding image is the Ascension above the triumphal arch: Christ sits within a mandorla carried by four angels, with partially preserved apostles below. In the Middle Ages, the church was one of Istria’s important pilgrimage destinations.
