Dicmo is not a single compact coastal town but the name of a karst field and municipality comprising seven settlements: Kraj, Osoje, Prisoje, Sušci, Sičane, Krušvar and Ercegovci. It lies in the Dalmatian hinterland on the route between Split and Sinj. Its name preserves the memory of ancient Decimin, a station associated with the tenth milestone on the Roman road from Salona. Traces of that road survive at Čemernica, while the area’s transport story continues at Prisoje. There, a protected stone station building dating from 1902 recalls the Split–Sinj narrow-gauge railway, known as the Rera, which crossed the field from 1903 to 1962. The municipality has created the Rera Dicmo thematic park beside the former station and installed a steam locomotive as an exhibit. Walkers can explore the Prisoje, Šćanica and Grubuša themed routes or the path dedicated to Our Lady of Sinj. Dicmo has no coastline or local beach; swimming requires a trip toward Split, where sandy Bačvice contrasts with the urban bathing areas of Žnjan and Trstenik.
Dicmo occupies a karst field in the hinterland of Split, along the road toward Sinj, with seven settlements positioned mainly around the field’s edge. Its name is linked to the Latin decimus and ancient Decimin, a station near the tenth milestone on the road leading inland from Salona. Transport remains the strongest thread in local identity: traces of the Roman road survive at Čemernica, while the stone station at Prisoje recalls the Split–Sinj narrow-gauge railway. This combination of cultivated field, dry-stone landscape and two layers of historic transport heritage distinguishes Dicmo from coastal Dalmatian destinations.

Dicmo lies inland and has no seafront, so a beach cannot be added to a walk around the municipality. For swimming, travel toward Split. Bačvice is the city’s sandy beach beside the port and the traditional home of picigin; Trstenik extends east of Zenta toward Žnjan, while the larger Žnjan area provides a broader choice of urban bathing spaces. A car is the practical option from Dicmo because the return trip crosses the Klis and Dugopolje road corridor. It makes more sense to devote a local day to the Rera, Roman-road remains and trails around the field, then plan the coast separately.
Start at Prisoje with the protected 1902 station building and the Rera Dicmo thematic park, where a steam locomotive recalls the former Split–Sinj narrow-gauge railway. Continue toward Čemernica, the site of remains from the Roman highway that led inland from Salona. For a walk, choose the Šćanica educational trail or the Grubuša path; the Our Lady of Sinj route links the Dicmo landscape with the pilgrimage tradition of neighbouring Sinj. In Kraj, the municipal centre, pause at the parish church dedicated to St James and St Anne before continuing around the field.
The main road approach follows the Split–Sinj corridor through the Klis and Dugopolje area; a car makes it easier to connect Dicmo’s seven settlements and separate trailheads. The Split–Sinj narrow-gauge railway no longer operates: the Rera crossed Dicmansko polje from 1903 to 1962, and its station building at Prisoje is now protected heritage. In 2026 the municipality published weekday community transport on two loops: Centar–Osoje–Sušci–Kraj–Sičane–Centar and Centar–Prisoje–Krušvar–Ercegovci–Centar. Listed departures are 06:10 or 06:15, 12:10 or 12:15, 14:30 and 21:00, depending on the route.
