St Vitus Church stands in fields at the entrance to Vid near Metković, on the site of a much larger 5th-century Early Christian basilica. That basilica was one of the three known basilicas of Late Antique Narona, and St Vitus Church was built over its ruins. The present building has a single nave, a square apse, a three-bell gabled belfry and a covered narthex added in 1900. Archaeological investigations also revealed numerous medieval burials nearby. From its restoration in 1901 until 1961, the church served as Vid’s parish church, before that role passed to the Church of Our Lady of the Snows.
