The Prud ornithological reserve preserves a remnant of Mediterranean wetland along the Norin River, east of Vid and the settlement of Prud and north of Glibuša. It has been protected as a special ornithological reserve since 1965 and covers about 250 hectares. Dense reedbeds and sedges provide shelter and habitat for nesting, migrating and wintering birds. Species associated with the wetland include the Eurasian bittern, little bittern, western marsh harrier and ferruginous duck. Prud has formed part of Croatia’s Ramsar wetland since 1993 and also lies within the Neretva Delta Special Protection Area for birds. It is best appreciated through quiet, low-impact nature observation that does not disturb birdlife.
