Varaždin County Palace was erected in the 18th century as a representative seat of county government. The great city fire of 1776 badly damaged it, and later rebuilding altered its appearance; restoration in the early 21st century returned a Rococo character to the façade. A historic county coat of arms is one of the exterior details, while a smaller courtyard lies behind the street front and is occasionally used for events. The palace still performs an administrative role, so it is generally appreciated from outside. Its central location near Korzo makes it a natural stop on a walk devoted to Varaždin’s Baroque and Rococo palaces.
